THE ONE TAKE SESSIONS : Cover Pic at 21 yrs old
Sometimes you choose the song . Other times it choses you . Today is a case of the latter.
Many of you know me as a Jazz Singer or a Gospel Singer – Yes I do both of those things. But then there are times when a lyric or an artist or an age and stage of life just jumps out amongst it all . And today was the day for this song. The chorus reminds me of how grown up I thought I was , but wasn’t at all. You don’t realise that till much later.

Adele is a spectacular singer and songwriter. A one off in her generation. She has my upmost admiration and respect. This is not me trying to a copy her vocal , although the melody lines are so compelling I certainly wanted to stay close to that. I listened thru twice and let the transparency of what I was feeling shine thru. That was the goal.

There’s always a group of artists I admire , whose music and sound I immerse myself in . They’re under my skin , there’s no escaping these people nor would I want to. Prince , Robert Plant , Joni , Aretha & Ella , to name a few, that lurk just below the surface . No doubt you’ll hear the Prince quote in this take.
2024 has been a helluva year for personal growth. Interpretation : growth = pain = growth = new roads. I don’t even know what made me think of this song to be honest. I was going to do a Ben Harper cover. Might do that next.
