THE ONE TAKE SESSIONS
This is a cute tune if ever there was one. I first heard Ella Fitzgerald sing it and was sold on her performance. You can hear Ella smile when she sings. I love that.
Composed by Frank Loesser for the famous musical Guys and Dolls it’s also a tune covered by Miles Davis.
Tomorrow Night – April 5th 2024 I’ll be singing with Rodric White’s Sextet at Foundry 616 in Sydney Australia. I thought I’d jump on the mic and rehearse this tune for fun ! I hope you like it .
The one take sessions are just that, One Take, mistakes and all… just to give you an idea of rehearsal technique and expose a little behind the scenes of studio life. Usually for a released recording of a song , you do many takes and cut and paste the best parts, but it’s fun to just let the tape roll and see what comes out. It’s good practise.
Who knows where this chart was going ( I didn’t rehearse it before this take , obviously ) but I managed to get back on the bus for the outro. Enjoy .
