My Heart is the fourth song I’ve had the pleasure of performing in the studio for US composer and arranger Mark E Rabenold. Any one of the original compositions I’ve recorded for Mark, could easily slip in side by side next to some of the classic tunes of The Great American Songbook.
Mark has a way of a blending a playful lyric with an equally expressive melody line. Mix that with his knack for big band composition and arrangement and , as you’ll see, and hear , it’s a winner !
Of the four tracks we’ve recorded so far, I think My Heart has been my favourite. Truly they are all wonderful songs, that make me long for the days when bigband music was the norm. Singers like Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra came up through an era , where poetic mastery, comedic intellect and dramatic timing were the order of the day. Songs like Mr Paganini , Too Darn Hot, A Tisket A Tasket, Mack the Knife, Blue Skies & I Got Rhythm . Composers like George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Rogers and Hart were in high rotation .
