My Favourite Things

The ONE TAKE SESSIONS

The hills are alive ! Who didn’t love The Sound Of Music ? As a child , and still even today this is one of my favourite musicals. Coming from a musical family, we’d spend hours singing all the tunes, learning to play them on the piano and watching the movie , over and over.

The story is based on the memoir of Maria Von Trapp , written by Howard Lindsay and Russell Crouse . Originally it was just going to be a play , but Rogers and Hammerstein became involved and the rest is history .

The original production opened on Broadway in 1959, and in London in 1961. The show has enjoyed numerous productions and revivals since then .In 1965 it was adapted as a film musical starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer , winning 5 academy awards that year.

There are so many hit songs in this film – it is a masterpiece. Vocalists and Jazz musicians have covered the tune – most famously John Coltrane on the tenor saxaphone putting his unique bebop spin on it and naming a landmark album after the tune.

I hope you enjoy my, pretty straight ahead, having a good time , version. Even my dog Olivia makes an appearance. It truly is a family affair !
