THE ONE TAKE SESSIONS
In My Hour Of Darkness: W + M Emmy Lou Harris & Gram Parsons.
There was a time in my life when a friend , Johnny McConnell , a sound engineer who has sadly passed now, turned me on to Emmy Lou and her album Wrecking Ball. BOOM ! What a moment that was. I went down that rabbit hole for 5 years, started a band over it , bought a Tomkins custom guitar , wrote songs and released 2 albums – The Ballad Of Malcolm Campbell – You can find that on itunes . Or it might be called Soul Song – depends what country you’re in . And What You Are.

These are the times when ADHD or OCD work in your favour.
I became acquainted with Gram Parsons. BOOM! Another rabbit hole. Daniel Lanois – BOOM! Another awesome rabbit hole that I still explore to this day. I knew about Daniel but it brought it all ’round again. ( Gram Parsons pictured below )

This song , ‘In My Hour Of Darkness’ – was one of the songs I’d play weekly at various gigs in Sydney . Saturdays at The Orient in The Rocks district in Sydney comes to mind . There’s a WHOLE BUNCH of material that I love from those days.

Anyway, I hope you like this one – I recorded the lead vocal and guitar on the mic, no headphones , just free in the room , one take and added the harmonies later. Again- the purpose of this series of songs and recordings is about laying it down. In one take. Human. Just how it comes. It’s a great way to ‘not fix things’, which can become an obsession if you’re not careful and rub away the very thing that makes you , you.
And really isn’t that what everyone wants to be? To see and be seen? And be loved for that? I love watching people be their natural selves on the internet. I curate my feed as much as possible to not see things I don’t want to see or that would give me nightmares and you have to be vigilant about that. But there’s some mind numbingly talented individuals just doin’ their thing. And I love it . So I figure I’d add my 2cents to the mix.
Enjoy . And if you do , give me a thumbs up and a comment. It helps get my music out to more people and I sure would appreciate it.
Thanks Deb
