THE ONE TAKE SESSIONS – Alright With Me
Alright With Me was composed by Cole Porter for the movie Can Can. Sung by Frank Sinatra it was destined to be a hit and enter the realm of Jazz Standard – a song that would be covered by the greats of jazz, singers and musicians alike.

Singing Jazz at the Australian Singing Competition 1988
One of my favourite versions is by Nancy Wilson. I remember the first time I heard her sing Satin Doll and I thought – “are you allowed to do that ?”. She was completely outside my frame of reference when it came to jazz vocalists and the freedom , the chops , the tambre – it just swept me away. I’ll never forget that day and I’ve never looked back since. That must’ve been some time in the late 80’s. I sang a version of her interpretation of Don’t Misunderstand from the album of the same name, in the Australian Singing Competition at the tender age of 21 and won the Jazz Category. I’ll post that performance video to the end of this page.
